Evaluación de la actividad antibacteriana y hemoaglutinante de los extractos de Solanum phureja, Tropaeolum tuberosum, Oxalis tuberosa y Ullucus tuberosus.

Abstract

The main objective of the present investigation was to evaluate the antibacterial and haemagglutinating activity of the aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Solanum phureja, Tropaeolum tuberosum, Oxalis tuberosa and Ullucus tuberosus. The antibacterial activity was evaluated through the disc diffusion method against American type culture collection (ATCC) bacteria of: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis and Salmonella typhimurium, this activity was compared with positive controls: amoxicillin (25ug), ciprofloxacin (5ug) and negative controls: sterile water and ethanol. The inoculated plates were incubated at 370 C for a period of 18 to 24 hours. For the haemagglutinating activity, it is worked with the aqueous extract and its dilutions using a suspension of 5% erythrocytes of the blood groups (O+, A+ and B+). The antibacterial effect was estimated by measuring the halos of inhibition, while the presence of lectins was assessed according to the agglutination intensity suffered by the erythrocytes. It is concluded that all the extracts have an antibacterial action for S. aureus and S. typhimurium, except for E. coli and P. mirabilis, which were not inhibited by any extract. It was also determined that, among the aqueous extracts from the four plants, the extract of S. phureja showed a higher haemagglutinating activity, therefore, a study and analysis of the lectins present in such plant is recommended.
