Plan de manejo del Bosque Yakusinchi localizado en el sector Puembo Chico provincia de Cotopaxi

Abstract

The present investigation proposes: developing the Yakusinchi forest management plan in the Puembo Chico arear, Cotopaxi province: through a participatory process, primary information was collected through workshops, field trips and secondary information based on bibliographic reviews. The environmental situational diagnosis of the forest was based on five aspects: political and geographical location, situation of the area, socio-economic, ecology and natural resources. Applying the 5s methodology (The Nature Conservancy), four focal conservation objects were identified: piedmont evergreen forest, water resource, and the faunal biotope between the species of Cebus aequatorialis and Alouatta palliata that served as the basis for formulating conservation guidelines, mission, vision, and management objectives. The zoning of the area was elaborated, with five zones: absolute protection, restricted use, controlled use, management of natural resources and human settlements; establishing the regime and the rules of use for its proper management. Five programs were established: administration, control and surveillance, wildlife management, scientific tourism, management of natural resources and communication, education and envoironmental participation, developing 11 projects that require and investment of $ 460.590,70 dollars over a period of six years. In this way the Yakusinchi forest promotes a model of conservation and restoration of flora, fauna and ecosystem services and it is esssential to declare it as a forest and protective vegetation by the Ministry of the Environment when fullfilling with what is established in article 6 of chapter III of the Forestry Law and the Conservation of Natural Areas and Wildlife.
