Evaluación de la capacidad reproductiva de toretes productores de carne en el estado de Chihuahua - México

Abstract

In different ranches in the State of Chihuahua, it was evaluated the reproductive capacity of 500 male caves producers of meat of Angus, Brangus and Charolais breed. According to the correlation analysis and the Chi-Square test (x2), the possible associations or dependencies in the study variables were validate, using the statistic software SPSS Statistics v21. For evaluating the reproductive aptitude of the Angus breed, it was obtained 168 fit animals and 23 not fit animals; for the Brangus breed, it was obtained 153 fit animals and 20 no fit animals, for the Charolais breed, it was obtained 125 fit animals and 11 not fit animals. The main causes for the animal rejection were testicular malformation, sperm malformation, infections in the penis, infection in the simple, papilloma, takes off the frenulum, does not draw, blows on the testicles and low semen production. In relation to the correlation of the different variables that incise about the reproductive aptitude, it was obtained a significance in the seminal volume (0,19); progressive motility (0,32) and motile motility (0,33) in the Angus breed, for the Brangus breed was obtained significance in the scrotal circumference (0,21) and for Charolais breed was obtained seminal volume (0,22) and Scrotal circumference (0,61); all of these values except the scrotal circumference are less than 0,6; which indicates the goodness of fit of the regression lines are low. Finally, it is recommended to raise farmers’ awareness about the importance of performing reproductive evaluations for male calf, to identify reproductive problems in the male calves, at an early age and avoid economic losses, since they represent 50 % of success in the future herd of cattle.
