Puntos críticos sobre lactancia materna exclusiva y propuesta de un manual de autoinstrucción para madres de la parroquia San Pablo de Atenas de la provincia de Bolívar, 2012

Abstract

The aim of the present desciptive study is to identify the critical points bout exclusive mother lactancy and elaborate a proposal of a handbook of self-instruction for mothers of San Pablo de Atenas Parish, for which it was, applied a survey to 92 breastfeeding mothers. The surveyed mothers were from the age 13 to 45 years of the urban sector (96.7%), being their main occupation the housework (68.5%) of primary school (45.7%). Within the reproductive characteristics of the mothers it was defined that have from 1 to 9 children, the most part its pregnancy was of ending (37 to 41 weeks of pregnancy), 62.5% of the births were in public hospitals whith a 81.5% of normal delivery. The 85.9% did not receive formal training about the benefits of mother lactancy instead of this, they received general orientations about the same; in the feeding of 60.9% of the newborn babies from 6 to 23 months, who has received the exclusive mother lactancy until 6 monts, and moreover the 58.7% of children start complementary feeding to 6 months. In the characteristics of mother lactancy, a 44.6% of mothers had their child after an hour of the labour and manifest that to feed the baby until 6 months, it has kept the baby, healthy (71.7%) and indicate that the reasons for not breasfeed to their children is because of mastitis (35.9%), expressing that a 93.5% did obtain support of the father to breastfeed the baby. It is recommended to dispose of a guide to impulse the mother lactancy.
