Propuesta del Plan de Desarrollo y Ordenamiento Territorial para el Cantón Alausí, Componente Económico Productivo

Abstract

In Alausí County, Chimborazo province a development and land planning proposal for the economic and productive component was elaborated. The research started with the productive area current situation analysis; then with the help of participative workshops, it was possible to identify the principal problems and potential, these topics finally helped in the definition of development strategies proposed in the programs and projects. Regarding to the current situation, it is concluded that Alausí has rural characteristics, 75,87% of people who are economically active carry out farming activities and have sandy loam soils with slopes ranging from 15 to 45° of inclination, despite of that these soils are appropriate for farming activities, the extent of soil to be used for farming activities is 39% of the total extent and the principal products are: barley, corn, potato, and fresh milk . In addition it is possible to evidence that the access to technology is the principal problem, so several improvements are required in order to obtain profitability in the production, thus it is recommended for the municipality of Alausí to implement the projects of the current research in order to capitalize the economy and productive area of the county as well as improving the quality of life of the population.
