Determinación de Radiación Natural en la provincia de Chimborazo.

Abstract

The present investigation determined the natural radiation in Chimborazo Province, the exposure of the population, the equivalent dose and the correlation between height and natural radiation. This work carried out in the whole of the land area of Chimborazo Province 6.500 Km2, this research is supported under method of cross research. Natural radiation measurement was performed using Geiger-Müller a portable detector model GCA-07W, the measurements were taken in 130 points in Chimborazo Province, the points which we took the measurements were determined by method stratified by convenience, each point 10 measures of natural radiation with a total of 1300 data, the measurements were taken at a constant height of 50 cm from the surface of the earth until the detector probe. The average natural radiation for Chimborazo Province was 0,00142087 Sv/year, with a value of a correlation between the height and natural radiation of 0,901536. Concluding that the natural radiation of Chimborazo Province is 41% below the world average established by the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, there is enough evidence to state that in Chimborazo Province the amount of natural radiation is directly influenced by the height. It is recommended to the students of Physics and Mathematics School that continue the study in other provinces of Ecuador to expand the knowledge of natural radiation.
