Abstract

Hospital Malnutrition: ELAN - ECUADOR. Hospital "Our Lady of Mercy". 2011 City of Ambato. The work was relate to the prevalence study of hospital malnutrition as well to study the social and demographic determinants of surgical clinical condition, hospitalization of hospitalized patients. The data were collected in the month of December 2011. Two surveys were used the Hospital Nutrition through collecting data only from patient`s history and the Subjective Global Assessment Survey applied to each patient. It was performed in patients older than 18 years and those with a hospital stay more than 24 hours. Statistical tests of significance used according to the measurement range of the independent variable were: Chi square, T student and Anova. It was determined the prevalence rate of Hospital Malnutrition where over 79% of patients were female. The average age was 45 years, mostly belonging to the popular strata under 24% and a level of primary education by 36%. The quality of hospital care is 100%, but it was felt that the attention is bad. It was concluded that Hospital Malnutrition prevalence exists in the range of 35.2%, where 2.6% are severely malnourished and 32.6% are suspected of malnutrition or had moderate malnutrition. It is recommended, that a group of nutritional support for the patient is present in the time of hospital admission to perform assessment, tracking and monitoring of each patient. Furthermore it is important to conduct research on the subject.
