Análisis Comparativo del Uso de la Levotiroxina en la Administración Diurna Frente a la Nocturna en Pacientes con Hipotiroidismo del Área de Endocrinología del Hospital del IESS Ambato

Abstract

A comparative analysis of the use of levothyroxine in daytime versus nighttime administration in patients with hypothyroidism was carried out in order to reduce the dose of levothyroxine and patients' symptoms. For this study we had the cooperation of 60 patients of the Hospital of IESS Ambato to whom levothyroxine was administered, 30 patients in the morning and 30 patients at night, in addition we investigated clinical histories, successive interviews were conducted in their control consultations, blood tests to measure levels of TSH and T4, obtaining the following results: of 60 outpatients taking levothyroxine, 58 are female and 2 are male, proving a higher incidence in the female sex corresponding to 96.52% suffering from hypothyroidism. It was verified that by administering a dose of 50 mg of levothyroxine at night, a normal level of TSH and T4 was achieved in comparison to the morning hours in which they received 100 mg of levothyroxine to reach these levels. The administration of levothyroxine at night produced significant results in the values obtained in TSH and T4 levels. By using this treatment it was possible to achieve a longer exposure of levothyroxine in the intestinal wall and therefore a greater absorption of the drug improving its effects on the organism, which represents a better quality of life for the patient. Patients are recommended to take the recommended dose at night.
