Abstract

The purpose of this investigation is to gather information by describing a particular case of a 96-year-old female patient who presents with a picture of cutaneous and oral myiasis for the second time, being the first diagnosis in January 2018, where the damage was minimal as a result of the infestation, but it aggravated the previously detected skin cancer, myiasis in the patient produced prolonged anaemia that worsened because the indicated treatment was not followed, which extended the pathology for several months, due to the resistance presented by the patient by not following the instructions of the attending physician. Currently, the patient re-enters presenting a pronounced ulcerative lesion of necrotic edges with the presence of purulent fluid at the level of the left zygomatic and in the oral cavity, with the real date of appearance one year (product of the previous myiasis), the lesion that is exacerbated in recent weeks, preventing normal food consumption, and adequate hydration, due to the presence of larvae in the affected area, which, being repetitive, produces a strong picture, so she goes to the Archidona Health Centre that evaluates and refers her to this health house on 10/02/2019, where it is valued by the services of internal medicine, surgery and the specialities of geriatrics, dermatology, otolaryngology, and cardiology, as a definitive treatment the surgical removal of the larvae was carried out, which was executed with success, after which it rests in intensive care. When he is in recovery, he is withdrawn from hospitalization by relatives. It is concluded that the repeated infestation is due to the little hygienic care that the patient presents and its complications to the little interest in complying with the treatments by the relatives.
