Elaboración de un Protocolo de Control de Calidad para el Mamógrafo Digital Tipo Melody del Departamento de Imagenología del Hospital Provincial General Docente Riobamba

Abstract

A Quality Control Protocol was developed for the digital mammograph MELODY of the Imagenology Department of the Hospital Provincial General Docente Riobamba, to establish criteria contributing to reaching an efficient use of the ionizing radiations permitting to obtain high diagnostic quality images with the least possible risk both for the staff and the patient.

""The inductive method was used for the investigation and the deductive method was used for the analysis of the geometric parameters, beam quality, exposure time, yield grid, automated exposure control, compression system, image quality and dosimetry. Through the equipment observation and operation technical information was obtained about functioning, this protocol meets the national and intemational norms such as those stated by the OIEA, OMS, ICRP; general protocols were also considered as a reference for radio-diagnostic. This comprises three principal parts: the equipment functioning the description of each parameter and the process to camy out each parameter individuall.

Due to the nature of our investigation, the first part is theoretical as the mammograph ¡s totally documented by the manufacturer, this investigation does notneed a hypothesis, but the general objective has been accomplished.

It recommended to use immediately the protocol to prevent radiological

accidents and equipment damages.
